Sustainability Ten Key Facts         A Sustainable Heritage

Ten facts you need to know about
Northwest Aromatics and sustainability.

  1.
Whether we produce 1 kg or 100 tons, our processing does not result in one single additional tree being cut down. Everything comes from sawdust already sustainably produced by the forest industry.
2.
BC's forest land-base is over 60 million hectares. That's an area larger than all of France.
3.
BC's rate of deforestation has been virtually zero for more than 20 years.

  4.
BC's forests are 95% publicly owned. For over a decade, the public has decided which areas should be protected.
5.
Over 13 million hectares of BC are protected and another 14 million hectares are designated for special management.
6.
BC's entire annual harvest comes from less than 1% of the working forest.

  7.
A 2003 independent study by Yale researchers found that BC has some of the most stringent forest sustainability requirements in the world.
8.
By law all harvest areas must be reforested. The seedlings used must be native species, and none of them can be genetically modified. These young forests are natural forests, not plantations.
  9.
BC's forest industry has 44 million hectares certified to sustainable forest management certification standards.
10.
More than 70% of BC's annual harvest comes from operations that are certified for sustainability or meet internationally recognized criteria for environmental management systems.
